Sky Background Measurement MaximDL Plugin

This plugin for MaximDL allows one to easily measure the brightness of the sky background given a star of known magnitude.

The reference star selected should not be saturated and should have a large enough clear background area around it to allow a good measurement of the background level.

A raw image which has only had dark/flat calibration carried out should be used. Any non-linear stretching will invalidate the results.

Usage:

Once a star has been identified on the image to be measured and the magnitude of that star determined, launch the plugin and enter the star magnitude in the resulting dialogue box.
Click the OK button then click on the center of the reference star.
The plugin will then calculate and display the sky background brightness level in units of magnitude per square arcsec.
